About me
I have worked as a Provisional Psychologist for roughly three years, with my first year as a Generally Registered Psychologist coming to a close. During this time, I have worked primarily within NDIS, supporting those with disabilities across myriad of settings from individual and couples counselling to family and workplace training and support.

I began my Mental Health career as a humble Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) Practitioner and Provisional Psychologist. Today, I work as a Regional Manager of PBS and NDIS psychological services for my company’s largest Western Australian site, comprised of over thirty provisional psychologists and junior PBS practitioners who I manage, train, and coach! While supporting my team, I also work as a Generally Registered Psychologist providing brief psychological intervention via the WAPHA Mindspot program for my own client caseload.

I would say I am rather eclectic in my approach, but if I had to boil it down, I would say I am primarily a person-centred therapist with an emphasis on schema therapy! I believe in the importance of genuine non-judgemental relationships between myself and my clients. Through these professional relationships, I collaborate with my clients and help find solutions uniquely suited to them.

I like to think I am bettering my clients’ lives through the development of tailor-made tools and strategies specific to them. After forging a genuine connection with my clients, I help my clients explore the values and motivators behind why they do what they do. After understanding the ‘why’, we develop tailor-made tools and strategies to address the ‘what’ and the ‘how’, to overcome the challenges unique to them.

Background + special interests
Being a Regional Manager and Senior Practitioner within NDIS, I have been blessed with opportunities to work across a myriad of client presentations from neurodiversity and personality disorders to the psychotic spectrum and beyond. I have also been afforded opportunities to conduct IQ Testing, personality assessment, parent coaching, staff training and risk management. Given a majority of my experience has been within the disability sector, I am also eager to branch into other fields such as psychometric testing, brief psychological intervention and DVA counselling!

Area of Interest
Having worked primarily in the NDIS sector, I am open to a variety of client presentations with a preference for adolescents and above. I am also eager to explore police and military.

Therapeutic Frameworks
I like to use a mix of evidence-based frameworks such as;

  • CBT
  • ACT
  • DBT
  • IPT
  • MI
  • Schema Therapy

What do you love most about the job? What drives you?
For me, it's those “aha!” moments where the final piece of the metaphorical puzzle falls into place. Like those moments when clients have experienced profound revelations, which lead them to a deeper understanding of their wants and needs. Too often, we treat ourselves with unwavering self-criticism, so it’s always nice to help clients view themselves with more self-compassion!

Three words that describe you the most?
Open / Attentive / Compassionate

What keeps you busy outside of work? What things are you learning at the moment? Interests, hobbies, etc.
For me, it’s the mastery of my core skills and abilities. While I’m tempted to branch out and explore niche intervention skills such as EMDR, I also acknowledge the value of honing my craft! In terms of research and specialty topics, I am currently re-exploring Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder and its overlap with traits common to Autism Spectrum Disorder. I am also exploring trauma literature regarding the mental health needs of our veterans. As for hobbies and outside interests, I dabble in digital illustration, collect retro videogames, y yo estoy apprendiendo Espanol!

How do you play?
I like to spend time relaxing to Boom Bap and Lo-Fi. When I’m feeling adventurous, however, I like to take my two pet parrots, Coco and Paprika out on excursions using specialty-made parrot harnesses. Unfortunately, unlike our resident Therapy Dog, Lottie, Coco and Paprika are far from therapeutic…
