About You
We understand you may be feeling a bit unsure right now.
You might have contemplated the idea of therapy for months or years. Or maybe it feels like this is all happening quickly.
No journey into therapy, or through therapy, is the same. Itโs why we wanted to create this space to speak to you โ to look into how you might be feeling and address any misperceptions.
"I'm too nervous."
We do our best work when a genuine connection is created between us. When you feel safe and supported, we are able to connect collaboratively. We meet you wherever you are with empathy and unconditional positive regard. Much of this nervousness comes from a fear of the unknown, such as not knowing what to expect and having to speak to a stranger. And like many forms of discomfort, we are wired to avoid it. Yet it is true that โhealing happens on the other side of pain.โ Nearly all our clients feel nervous at the beginning, but this feeling doesnโt last. Your nervousness will be replaced with comfort and connection, and you will be on your way to deep and meaningful change.
"Therapy didn't work for me. We just talked a lot and nothing changed."
We agree that therapy should deliver noticeable change. This is why we utilise only evidence-based therapies and services, to create the best prospect for positive changes in your life. We will also focus our efforts on what means the most to you. It is important to remember that good therapy is a two-way street. The best outcomes and value for money are experienced by those willing to โdo the work.โ
โItโs too hard - itโs too much to process.โ
As you enter our therapeutic space, you will be met with immense empathy and support. Our warmth and positive regard will help you to be open and vulnerable. How we end each session together also matters. Once our time together is up, we will do some important re-grounding work as you prepare to exit our space and return to your everyday life. If you are working through past trauma, we proactively arrange follow ups and regular phone check-ins.
โI had a bad experience in the past.โ
We are sorry to hear that therapy hasnโt been a positive experience for you in the past. This can often come down to finding the right fit for you. Every psychologist is different in their approach and their therapies. To help ensure you have a positive experience with us, we get to know you and meet you where you are at. We make it our job to learn to support you in ways that work for you.
โThere needs to be something wrong to go to therapy.โ
Prevention is always better than a cure. Itโs a common misperception that therapy is about โfixingโ an issue, taking you from negative to neutral. Yet there is so much to be gained from proactively addressing your mental health and wellbeing. When things feel relatively stable, it can be easier to learn and process, helping you to take that next step to flourish and thrive.
